The platform predates the line. The line was established by the Webelos den of a local Cub Scout pack as an end-of-season civic improvement. The figures were doubted. A review was conducted. The figures were confirmed. Subsequent satellite elevation data has confirmed the figures to within 7.5 centimeters.

In the spring of 1988 the Arrow of Light was awarded to every member of the den. All members advanced to Boy Scouts. The Webelos program was restructured that autumn.
